Daniel Parkinson & Friends was originally founded during the Covid pandemic to raise money for the UK charity, Help Musicians. As the world adjusted to life with social distancing in the aftermath of lockdown, Daniel brought together a group of friends to make a recording of Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite (Version for 13 Instruments). Four years on, Daniel is continuing his passion project with a new EP, An American in Paris. The ensemble’s recording of George Gershwin’s jazz-inspired tone poem (arr. for chamber ensemble by Iain Farrington) and Promenade - Walking the Dog (arr. for chamber ensemble by James Batty) is now available on all major streaming platforms.

In 2024, Daniel and the BBC Concert Orchestra recorded six commissioned works for Series 3 of the BBC’s Music & Meditation Podcast. The series has had over two million listens on BBC Sounds and has been heavily featured on BBC Radio 3.

Future engagements include performances of The Nutcracker for Scottish Ballet, New York City Ballet & English National Ballet. In addition, Daniel will conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra in a special, dance themed episode of Friday Night is Music Night. The concert, to be recorded at Alexandra Palace in front of a live studio audience, will be subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Daniel has also worked with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Sir Matthew Bourne's New Adventures & Manchester Camerata. He studied Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music with Clark Rundell and Mark Heron.
